Job Description
The hiring organization is a reputable healthcare facility committed to delivering compassionate care and exceptional service, particularly through its Nutritional Services Department. This department plays an essential role in patient care by ensuring that all meals provided are not only nutritious but also prepared with the utmost attention to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Working in such an environment means being part of a healthcare team that truly believes in the positive impact of good nutrition on patient recovery and wellbeing. This company fosters a culture of passion and dedication, inspiring its employees to align with its mission of delivering patient-centered care through excellence in food service.
The position available is for a Cook within the Nutritional Services Department, reporting directly to the Food Production Manager. This role requires the preparation of food in a timely manner, ensuring that meal quantities and qualities adhere strictly to established standards and requirements. The Cook utilizes standard kitchen equipment and utensils efficiently while maintaining rigorous sanitation practices to comply with hospital policies and food safety standards. Flexibility is a crucial attribute for this role to adapt to the fluctuating demands typical in hospital food service environments.
The Cook's responsibilities include preparing appetizing and palatable food prior to meal service, completing required documentation, and participating in ongoing educational activities to stay updated on best practices. The position also demands resourcefulness in utilizing hospital supplies and equipment cost-effectively without compromising quality. Maintaining clean, orderly, and sanitary work areas and equipment is a must, reflecting the high standards of the healthcare facility. This role is unionized under NUHW and offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $36.74 to $40.50, reflecting the targeted salary for new hires.
Educationally, applicants must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. They are required to obtain and maintain a California Food Handler Card from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited training provider, meeting the ASTM International E2659-09 Standard Practice for Certificate Programs, within 30 days of hire or transfer. A valid driver’s license is also mandatory. Experience-wise, candidates should have at least five years in food production and three years specifically as a cook. This combination of education, certification, and practical experience ensures the cook can meet the hospital's rigorous standards for food preparation and safety.
Working at this healthcare facility offers those who thrive in a dynamic, enthusiastic, and growth-oriented environment an excellent opportunity to grow their careers. The organization's commitment to teamwork, employee development, and patient care excellence makes it a rewarding place to work. The variable work shifts provide some level of flexibility, allowing the candidate to balance work-life needs effectively. Overall, this role is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts and healthcare who want to make a meaningful contribution to patient care through nutritional services.
