Job Description

The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City, located in Arlington, Virginia, is a distinguished luxury hotel known for its exceptional hospitality and commitment to delivering unmatched experiences to its guests. Renowned worldwide as a global brand leader in luxury hospitality, The Ritz-Carlton is part of Marriott International’s prestigious portfolio of brands. The hotel takes great pride in its richly diverse, talented, and experienced team of associates who create lifelong memories for their guests by consistently adhering to the company’s hallmark standards known as the "Gold Standards." These standards include the Employee Promise, Credo, and Service Values, which guide every team member to deliver gracious and thoughtful service daily. The Ritz-Carlton offers a vibrant work environment where diversity is celebrated, inclusivity is embraced, and every associate is empowered to be creative, thoughtful, and compassionate.

This full-time, non-management Food and Beverage Culinary Associate role at The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City offers an incredible opportunity for individuals interested in developing their culinary skills and advancing their careers within a prestigious luxury hospitality setting. A key feature of this position is the partnership with Rouxbe Cooking School, which provides engaging online culinary training opportunities through a self-paced platform. This training program includes hundreds of well-designed lessons that Marriott associates of all culinary experience levels can access and apply immediately to their jobs. This initiative reflects Marriott’s commitment to investing in the continuous learning and professional growth of its team members.

In this role, culinary associates are responsible for preparing and cooking food according to recipes, quality and presentation standards, and food preparation checklists. Duties include preparing ingredients for cooking through precise portioning, chopping, and appropriate storage, as well as safely using baking and measuring equipment to create baked foods. Maintaining strict compliance with food safety handling policies and personal hygiene procedures is critical, along with monitoring the correct temperatures of kitchen appliances and foods, and reporting any issues to management. The associate is also responsible for washing and disinfecting kitchen areas, setting up and breaking down workstations, and ensuring complete compliance with sanitation and cleaning standards throughout their shift.

Additionally, the role involves closely monitoring the quality of food prepared and portions served, following all company policies including safety and security protocols, and reporting any unsafe work conditions or incidents promptly to management. Expectations include maintaining a clean and professional personal appearance and confidentiality of proprietary information while communicating clearly and professionally with team members and guests.

The physical demands of the job involve moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted, working on potentially uneven or slippery surfaces, and assuming various body positions such as reaching overhead, bending, twisting, and stooping. Despite being a non-management position, the culinary associate plays a vital role in supporting their team to achieve common goals and uphold the signature quality standards of The Ritz-Carlton.

Joining The Ritz-Carlton means becoming part of a global community where individuals can do their best work, begin their purpose, belong to a diverse and supportive team, and become the best version of themselves in an environment renowned for excellence in guest care and comfort. This job is perfect for candidates with a high school diploma or GED equivalent and less than one year of related work experience, looking to build a rewarding career in the culinary field within an internationally acclaimed luxury hotel setting.
