The role of Cook at City of Hope involves preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items across multiple meal periods. These periods include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events, where the culinary services contribute directly to patient satisfaction and overall dining experience. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellness of patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring high-quality, safe, and nutritious meal options prepared according to established federal, state, and internal regulations. The cook position requires proficiency in operating kitchen equipment, following recipes and dietary instructions, and maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards. Tasks include preparing orders to meet diverse dietary needs, managing food inventory, and participating in safety training to uphold a secure work environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three to four years of related work experience
  • Preferably has cooking experience in the hospital setting
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen equipment operation
  • Knowledge of cash-handling procedures

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks to order foods for various meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events
  • Operates grill station and a la carte food preparation
  • Prepares food in compliance with federal, state, and City of Hope standards
  • Follows recipes and product directions for seasoning, cooking, tasting, and serving a variety of foods
  • Operates kitchen equipment for ingredient preparation including washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding
  • Estimates food requirements, checks production, maintains records, and plans requisition of supplies
  • Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment according to safety procedures
  • Participates in allergy and foodborne illness training and safety meetings
  • Receives and moves inventory and supplies
  • Adheres to company safety, risk management, and infection control policies
  • Maintains confidentiality and practices high integrity
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned
