The Lead Cook position at St. Paul's Towers is a full-time role on the morning shift, with work scheduled from Friday to Tuesday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM. This role offers a competitive pay range of $26.00 to $28.00 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The Lead Cook plays a crucial role in the kitchen hierarchy, working under the supervision of the Dietary Services Director or Executive Chef. This position is responsible for preparing culinary delights that meet the high standards expected by the residents. Ensuring not only the taste but also the appearance and timely delivery of all meals, the Lead Cook directly impacts the dining experience and overall resident satisfaction.
The responsibilities are diverse and require a hands-on approach in daily food preparation across various kitchen stations including pantry and fry stations. The Lead Cook must ensure that food quality, presentation, and consistency are maintained to meet the community’s standards. Beyond cooking, the position involves training kitchen staff in proper food preparation and handling techniques, controlling food costs, and ensuring adherence to all health and safety regulations. The Lead Cook leads by example in maintaining cleanliness, grooming, and appearance standards among kitchen staff.
Additionally, the role requires participation in menu planning and development of standardized recipes under the guidance of senior kitchen management. The Lead Cook is also responsible for ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and safely, anticipating challenges, resolving workplace issues, and facilitating a smooth operational flow. This position also includes supervisory duties, overseeing other cooks, assistant cooks, and food service workers and assisting with hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Job Requirements
- Food handlers' certification from local health department
- high school diploma or GED
- ability to work morning shift Friday through Tuesday from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM
- physical ability to perform cooking and supervisory duties
- willingness to comply with all safety and sanitation regulations
- ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff and residents
- ability to follow facility emergency and safety protocols
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- food handlers' certification from local health department
- 2-4 years related experience and/or training preferred
- knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques
- supervisory or lead kitchen experience preferred
- understanding of health department sanitation and food safety regulations
- ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and food quality
- strong communication and leadership skills
- ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Job Duties
- Provide quality customer service efficiently to residents, families, co-workers and vendors
- comply with standards of service and assist in assuring the same from all kitchen employees
- participate in actual food preparation, produce food consistently high quality, taste and presentation and expedite during peak meal periods as needed
- control food cost by assisting in training kitchen staff on the proper methods of food preparation and handling by training kitchen and dining room employees on how to handle leftover food items
- ensure that all kitchen employees consistently adhere to uniform, grooming and appearance standards
- assist in developing standardized recipes
- assist in menu planning as directed by the Director of Dining Services and/or Executive Chef
- be responsible for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements
- be responsible for care and cleanliness of equipment and related work areas
- assure timing of preparation to meet service schedules
- demonstrate alertness to maintain efficient operation of assigned area
- perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner
- wear safety equipment as required for the job
- report any safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor
- establish goals for the kitchen and anticipate and resolve problems concerning all facets of the kitchen
- establish and require strict adherence to health department sanitation and food handling guidelines
- maintain effective communication within the kitchen and be responsive to staff suggestions and concerns
- maintain effective working relationships with kitchen and dining room management, staff, residents and other departments
- conduct regular inspections of the entire kitchen, dishwashing areas and coolers and promptly act to correct deficiencies found
- follow highest standards of cleanliness and comply with federal, state and corporate policies, health codes and guidelines in preparation and handling of foodstuffs
- follow department safety standards, practice correct body mechanic techniques and participate in campus-wide safety programs
- attend all mandatory in-service meetings and comply with all department and facility policies and procedures
- understand facility’s fire and disaster plans and follow established procedures during drills and emergencies
- directly and/or indirectly supervise cooks, assistant cooks and food service workers and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring and training employees
