The University of Northern Colorado, in partnership with Sodexo, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook II to join their dynamic culinary team. This full-time position offers an hourly pay range from $18.75 to $20.75 and requires flexible availability across varying shifts, including days and hours to meet the needs of diverse meal periods such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events. The Cook II plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality food preparation and service, directly impacting customers’ satisfaction and the overall dining experience.

As a Cook II with Sodexo at the University of Northern Colorado, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting nutritious meals efficiently and professionally. This role demands strict adherence to recipes and product directions, an ability to work well as part of a team, and a commitment to minimizing food waste. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for food and customer service, fostering a welcoming atmosphere through a positive attitude and friendly interaction with customers and colleagues alike.

This position involves hands-on food preparation, portioning, and cooking of a variety of hot and cold food items. You may also have the opportunity to work at an a la carte or grill station and assist with managing key daily functions and employees under the supervision of management. Reliability, punctuality, and adaptability are essential as you will be expected to attend scheduled shifts consistently and take on other reasonable duties based on business needs. Candidates with three to four years of related experience are preferred, but a commitment to teamwork, safety, and a healthy work environment is paramount.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 to 4 years of related work experience preferred
  • Ability to work varying shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Open availability preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with food preparation
  • Willingness to comply with food safety standards and regulations
  • Reliable transportation or ability to commute to the University of Northern Colorado location

Job Duties

  • Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special/catered events
  • Read and follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing various food items
  • Prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte and/or operate a grill station
  • Support management in the daily oversight of key functions and employees during the normal course of business
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned that can differ among accounts depending on business necessities and client requirements
