Job Description
Our organization is a leading healthcare facility committed to providing exceptional patient care and support services. Among our many services, we operate a comprehensive kitchen and cafeteria located within the hospital, dedicated to supplying high-quality, nutritious hot food items for patients, staff, and catered events. Our cafeteria is a vital component of our institution, focused on catering to diverse dietary needs and preferences while adhering to strict health and safety regulations. The kitchen team plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of food prepared and served on-site, supporting the overall health outcomes of our patients and the satisfaction of our staff and visitors.
The role available is that of a Hot Food Cook, a specialized culinary position dedicated to preparing, cooking, and presenting hot menu items according to standardized recipes. This position supports hospital cafeterias, patient meals, and catered events, requiring a balance of culinary skill, attention to detail, and adherence to health standards. The Hot Food Cook must utilize effective communication skills to maintain good customer relations and work collaboratively with other kitchen and healthcare staff.
Candidates for this position play a vital role in performance improvement initiatives. The role involves the development, assessment, and evaluation of performance monitors to advance key operational processes and enhance key result areas such as food quality, timely service, and safety compliance. The cook ensures that all food preparation areas uphold the highest sanitation and safety protocols aligned with Hospital and Board of Health Regulations and Guidelines. Documentation of food temperatures and date marking to ensure freshness are critical responsibilities to prevent foodborne illnesses and uphold patient safety.
This full-time position is ideal for individuals with previous culinary experience, particularly in a fast-paced restaurant or healthcare kitchen environment, who are committed to quality and compliance. The role demands physical stamina as it requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the workday in varying temperature environments, including hot kitchens and cold storage areas. The ability to safely operate various kitchen equipment, such as ovens, deep fryers, steam kettles, and electric slicers, is essential.
The Hot Food Cook position requires candidates to have a minimum education level of a high school diploma and at least two years of line cook experience in a restaurant setting. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to read and follow recipes precisely are mandatory. Physical requirements include the capacity to lift up to 35 pounds safely, with assistance or equipment required for heavier loads, ensuring workplace safety and compliance with institutional policies.
Working in this role provides an opportunity to contribute directly to patient and staff satisfaction by delivering excellent food service while adhering to strict health and safety standards. The position offers valuable experience working within a healthcare environment, contributing to performance improvement plans, and enhancing operational efficiency within the hospital culinary services.
