The Food Preparation role at The Benson Hotel & Faculty Club is essential to maintaining the high standards that guests expect. This position involves preparing food items in alignment with established production requirements and quality standards while adhering to rigorous safety and sanitary guidelines. The role requires a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing food inventory, portion control, and food waste reduction. Food preparers will work closely with kitchen staff and front-of-house teams to ensure that every dish served meets the hotel's standards for consistency and quality.

This position is a regular full-time, non-tipped culinary role offering an hourly wage of $21.00. The environment is fast-paced and demands physical stamina, including lifting, standing for prolonged periods, and working in temperature-controlled settings, ranging from freezer cold to warm kitchen environments.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in food service or related fields, demonstrate a sound knowledge of cooking techniques, and be comfortable following recipe cards and standardized operating procedures. Physical demands include frequent lifting of items up to 70 pounds, mobility to travel distances within the kitchen, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members. The role also emphasizes personal responsibility in maintaining sanitary conditions and food safety protocols, including correct food storage and labeling practices.

Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • minimum one-year food service or related work
  • knowledge of cooking and kitchen practices
  • ability to lift items weighing up to 70 pounds
  • ability to stand continuously during shifts
  • capability to work in varying temperatures from freezer cold to hot kitchen environments
  • ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively
  • physical mobility to move within kitchen space

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • minimum one-year food service or related work
  • knowledge of cooking and the practices and procedures of a kitchen in order to perform non-repetitive analytical work
  • ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • physical stamina and ability to handle kitchen environment demands

Job Duties

  • Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards, per dupe from servers
  • start food items that are prepared ahead of time, making sure not to prepare more than estimated needs
  • date all food containers and rotate as per the SOP, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures
  • check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up
  • note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • return all food items not used on next shift to designed storage areas, being sure to cover and date all perishables
  • assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any food cost problems
  • control food waste, loss and usage per SOP
