The Cook II position at Sonesta Denver (Downtown) is an integral role in the Culinary Department, reporting directly to the Executive Chef. This non-exempt, hourly position offers a competitive pay range of $25.00 to $27.00 per hour and requires a dedicated individual passionate about hospitality and delivering exceptional guest service. The role focuses on the preparation and production of food orders consistent with the highest quality standards established by Sonesta. The Cook II plays a critical part in maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with all company and health regulations. This fast-paced position demands physical stamina and flexibility, including tolerance for working in extreme temperatures, such as freezers and loading docks, and the ability to stand and perform repetitive tasks throughout the entire shift.

Flexibility in scheduling is essential as this role requires the ability to work variable days and shifts, including weekends, holidays, day, night, and overnight shifts, with some shifts extending up to twelve hours. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently or constantly
  • Frequent bending, kneeling and reaching required
  • Ability to stand during entire shift
  • Must be flexible to work variable days of the week including weekends and holidays

  • Relevant experience in restaurant or hotel food preparation preferred
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Job Duties

  • Produce all food orders in a timely and consistent manner in accordance with established quality standards
  • Test food to ensure quality and consistency of all meals served
  • Operate all kitchen equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Handle and store food items safely and keep work area clean and sanitized, including all opening and closing duties
  • Operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils
  • Store all clean pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils to proper storage location using care to minimize breakage
  • Clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas
  • Sweep and mop all kitchen floors and other assigned areas
  • Collect and properly dispose of trash
  • Service food for the Employee Cafeteria as specified by the Chef or Kitchen Supervisor
  • Adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Adhere to uniform and grooming standards
  • Perform other duties or projects as requested by management
