Job Description

This position involves preparing meals and supervising the activities of the food preparation staff within the Health Care District’s food service operations. The role requires monitoring of work area conditions, managing inventory stocking and rotation, and maintaining sanitation standards in compliance with health regulations. As a Food Preparation Supervisor, employees play a key role in ensuring that meals meet established quality and safety standards as well as dietary requirements. The position involves leadership as well as hands-on food preparation tasks such as washing, chopping, pureeing, and cooking various menu items. Individuals in this role are responsible for overseeing substitutions on menus, monitoring special diet preparations, and providing guidance to food service personnel in proper culinary techniques, hygiene, and time management. The position demands attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with team members to ensure smooth food service operations.
The role also extends to inventory management duties, including receiving deliveries, stocking supplies, and rotating food items to maintain freshness. Safety and cleanliness are of utmost importance, with responsibilities including proper labeling and storage of leftover food and observing personal sanitation protocols such as wearing hair nets and washing hands appropriately. This supervisory position requires readiness to act as a resource and assist co-workers in meeting food service needs and may involve emergency duties, such as working at Red Cross shelters or responding to natural and man-made disasters as required by the Health Care District. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- two years previous experience or training that demonstrates a variety of cooking skills and the ability to prepare food items according to established methods
- Food Safe Certification preferred

Job Duties
- Monitors food preparation staff in all aspects of meal preparation and maintaining safe, clean, and efficiently operating work areas
- determines appropriate substitutions for menu items if necessary
- monitors conditions such as sanitation, temperatures, weights, special diet preparation, and equipment functioning
- receives deliveries and maintains proper stocking and rotation of inventory items
- refills supply areas
- provides instruction to food preparation personnel in proper methods, techniques, and time management
- retrieves food items from stock areas, freezers, and refrigeration areas
- performs food preparation tasks such as washing, chopping, skinning, pureeing, tenderizing
- prepares special orders and menu items according to prescribed diets
- cooks various foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as applicable to assigned shift
- properly labels and stores left over foods
- observes personal sanitation procedures such as washing hands, wearing hair nets
- acts as a resource to other employees and assists co-workers as needed
