Job Description

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation traces its origins back many centuries ago when their ancestors formed a close-knit community living in harmony with nature through farming, hunting, and fishing. This rich cultural heritage has evolved significantly over time, and today, the Sycuan Tribe is a dynamic and respected entity governing its Reservation in the San Diego region. The Tribe is widely known for its successful ownership and operation of a state-of-the-art Casino and Golf Resort, along with various other business ventures that contribute to the local economy and provide meaningful employment opportunities.

Sycuan is not just a business organization; it represents a vibrant community focused on shared goals, mutual support, and cultural preservation. The Sycuan family values teamwork, hospitality, and excellence, which are evident in every division — from the Tribal Government to the Casino and Resort operations. Individuals who choose to work with Sycuan become part of a culturally rich community that prioritizes guest experience, workforce inclusivity, and operational excellence.

This role is for a Cook I position based within the Culinary division under the direction and guidance of the venue Sous Chef. The Cook I is entrusted with preparing food and menu items exclusively using approved recipes, cooking methods, and ingredients as set by Food & Beverage and Culinary Management. This ensures consistency in quality and presentation that meets the high standards expected by Sycuan's guests.

The successful Cook I candidate will maintain all equipment, kitchen areas, and food items in accordance with health code regulations and the Casino’s own rigorous standards. With a positive, team-oriented, and accommodating attitude, the Cook I collaborates effectively with guests, fellow team members, and management to preserve a welcoming and professional kitchen environment.

Key aspects of the role include maintaining a designated workstation, executing recipes consistently to preserve flavor profiles and quality, and possessing knowledge of basic food products and standard food production equipment. The Cook I should be competent in basic cooking methods, demonstrate adequate knife skills, understand and apply the 'First In, First Out' (FIFO) food rotation method, and be able to read food order tickets accurately.

This hourly position is ideal for candidates eager to develop their culinary skills within a supportive team atmosphere. Sycuan offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern hospitality operations, where employees are valued members of an engaged community working towards a shared mission of providing memorable guest experiences. If you are passionate about cooking, maintaining high standards, and working within a dynamic culinary team, Sycuan encourages you to apply and grow your career with this esteemed organization.
