The Cook position at Mount Carmel plays a vital role in supporting the hospital's mission by preparing quality food for patients, the cafeteria, and catering services in accordance with dietary guidelines and schedules. Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or 1-year equivalent experience with commercial production food service
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Food handlers certification within 6 months of hire
  • Relevant work experience in a hospital setting, large institution, or commercial kitchen preferred
  • Effective communication skills and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of large quantity standards of cooking preferred
  • Knowledge of food preparation by recipe preferred
  • Ability to complete assignments under direct supervision
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and good organization skills
  • Compatibility with others in service situations
  • Clean and neat appearance

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Obtain appropriate ingredients from storage areas for recipes when necessary
  • Responsible for lifting and carrying medium to heavy food and equipment
  • Plan cooking schedule with supervisor and/or dietitian to ensure food will be ready at specified times
  • Confer with dietitians regarding modified diet preparation
  • Review menu and special orders to determine types and quantities of food items to be prepared
  • Complete assignments under direct supervision
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
