Job Description
City of Hope is a distinguished national biomedical research and treatment center dedicated to the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Headquartered in Duarte, California, City of Hope operates a growing nationwide system including its Los Angeles campus, various clinical care locations throughout Southern California, and cancer treatment centers in key cities such as Orange County, Atlanta, Chicago, and Phoenix. Renowned for its compassionate, patient-centered approach and groundbreaking scientific research, City of Hope continuously pioneers innovative therapies that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. This unique institution is driven by a powerful mission: to deliver the cures of tomorrow to people who need them today. This mission fuels its team of dedicated employees who contribute tirelessly toward advancing health care and scientific discoveries in the fight against some of the most challenging diseases. The role of a Cook at City of Hope is a vital position within the Food and Nutrition Services department. This full-time position involves preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting an array of hot and cold food items for various meal periods — including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catered special events. The Cook plays a key role in ensuring that high-quality, nutritious meals are delivered efficiently to patients, visitors, and staff, adhering to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include preparing food to order with precision and timeliness, operating grill stations, and following established recipes and federal, state, and city health regulations. The Cook ensures that food is prepared for special diets as necessary and provides excellent customer service at all times. This role requires a strong attention to detail in food safety practices, sanitation, and kitchen equipment operation. An essential part of the job includes participating in ongoing allergy and foodborne illness training as well as safety meetings and hazard assessments, ensuring continuous compliance with City of Hope’s rigorous safety policies. In addition to preparing food, the Cook will assist with inventory receiving and may be required to move or lift food supplies. The role demands integrity, honesty, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all workplace operations. City of Hope fosters an inclusive work environment and is an equal opportunity employer. Compensation for this position is based on work experience, qualifications, and work location, reflecting City of Hope’s dedication to recognizing its employees' contributions fairly and competitively. Employees can also benefit from an excellent comprehensive benefits package that supports their well-being and professional growth.
