The role of Cook I, Community Corrections at CoreCivic is a critical position focused on preparing and serving nutritious and approved meals to residents and staff in a residential setting. This full-time role offers a salary of $21.56 per hour and appeals to individuals who have a passion for food service and maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety in food preparation. The Cook I is responsible for adhering strictly to established food handling procedures, ensuring that all meals are prepared according to specified menus and served punctually. The position involves planning food production schedules, managing temperature control, and maintaining food quality throughout preparation and service.
In addition to cooking duties, the Cook I will assist or direct meal service in compliance with organizational policies, including portion control and proper serving techniques. Transportation of meals between community corrections locations may also be required, necessitating the operation of a company vehicle and adherence to food transport safety protocols. Maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen, including the disposal of refuse and regular inspection of equipment and work areas, is an ongoing responsibility. Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent
- Experience in food service and knowledge of volume food service operation including safety and sanitation preferred
- Must meet all state and local government food handling requirements
- Must pass and obtain a food handler card within 30 days after date of hire
- Must be available to work any hours and any shift
- Valid driver's license
- Minimum age requirement: must be at least 18 years of age

Job Duties
- Review menu cycle for break out, prepares food according to menus and serves meals at designated meal times
- Plan food production to coordinate with meal delivery and serving hours, preserving the quality, temperature, and food appearance within food safety guidelines
- Assist and/or direct the serving of meals in accordance with dining schedule and compliance standards including portion control, temperature and proper serving procedures
- Transport prepared meals by company vehicle to be served at other community corrections locations
- Assist with loading/unloading of food, ensuring all items are properly secured during transport and delivered at designated time frames
- Distribute food plates during late meal service
- Review temperature logs for food, refrigeration and freezer, report potential unsanitary conditions to supervisory staff
- Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen after each meal preparation, including prompt disposal of refuse using appropriate containers
- Conduct inspections of equipment and work areas including kitchen, storeroom, pantry, service and dining areas for maintenance and compliance with policies, procedures, rules, standards, and health, sanitation and safety laws, report results of inspections as required
