The organization prides itself on its strong reputation as a healthcare provider and employer, valuing compassionate service, continuous improvement, and teamwork across all departments.

Within Kootenai Health's dynamic Hospitality department, a diverse team of 120 dedicated professionals work together to provide comprehensive support services to patients, staff members, and various hospital units. This team includes executive chefs, sous chefs, cooks, baristas, clinical dietitians, nutrition technicians, guest relation associates, and hospitality services associates. Their roles encompass a wide range of responsibilities such as catering services, patient meal preparation via a room service program, running an employee and guest café, stocking hospital units with food and paper supplies, and delivering patient nutrition support and education supervised by registered dietitians. This fast-paced environment emphasizes teamwork, high standards, and an unwavering commitment to patient satisfaction and nutrition quality.

The Cook I position at Kootenai Health plays an essential role in this Hospitality team by preparing and presenting high-quality, restaurant-style meals using fresh ingredients for patients and hospital customers. This role covers various duties including working on the room service line, grab and go preparation, operating in the West campus kitchen, and managing the exhibition salad station. The Cook I is expected to be a positive team player, exhibit strong customer service skills, and maintain a professional attitude while working in a high-volume, fast-paced setting. Precision in following standardized recipes, clinical dietary standards, and strict sanitation regulations is vital to ensure every meal meets both taste and health expectations.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and patient care nutrition to contribute meaningfully within a healthcare setting. Besides advancing cooking skills and experience in institutional dining, the role fosters collaboration across multiple teams, supports a healthy patient environment, and enhances the overall hospital experience. Kootenai Health supports its employees with competitive pay, comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, tuition assistance, wellness programs, and more, reflecting its commitment to employee wellbeing and professional growth.
