Job Description

The Mission is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless and vulnerable populations in the community by providing essential services such as meals, shelter, and hope for a new life. Rooted in Christian values, The Mission emphasizes compassion, restoration, and spiritual support alongside practical assistance. It operates several programs, including a Centralized Kitchen where meals are prepared and distributed to those in need. The Mission upholds a strong commitment to excellence in service, safety, and teamwork, striving to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests, volunteers, and staff alike. The organization values personal faith and encourages staff to maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ, fostering a culture of prayer, devotion, and supportive fellowship.

The role of Cook I at The Mission’s Centralized Kitchen involves the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals while ensuring all areas of the kitchen, including prep stations, pantries, freezers, and refrigerators, are kept clean, organized, and compliant with food safety regulations. Working Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a target starting pay of $22.00 per hour, this position offers a stable full-time schedule. The cook will be responsible for managing food inventories, assisting with the onboarding of new kitchen staff, collaborating with volunteers and program guests, and participating in organizational meetings and training sessions. This role is critical to the smooth operation of the kitchen and contributes directly to the success of the Mission’s programs by ensuring that meal services are delivered on time and meet health department standards.

In addition to culinary skills, this role requires adherence to the Mission’s faith-based mission and values. The candidate is expected to actively engage in the spiritual life of the team, including prayer, devotionals, and representing Christ’s love to all those involved with the Mission. The position requires compliance with local health department standards, safety protocols, and kitchen operational guidelines. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds, extended periods of sitting, and occasional standing or walking throughout a temperature-controlled environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about cooking and serving their community in a mission-driven, supportive setting while growing both professionally and spiritually.
