This particular opportunity is for a Cook I position located at the Longview Campus Acute Care facility, operating under Sodexo’s healthcare services segment. This is a part-time role, offering an hourly pay range of $19.75 to $21.75, with work shifts primarily during afternoons and evenings on varying days. The Cook I role is an integral part of Sodexo’s culinary team, responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items across all meal periods and special events. This position requires working in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining Sodexo's high standards of quality, food safety, sanitation, and presentation.
As a Cook I, the candidate will work closely with the culinary team to support the delivery of a memorable dining experience. The role includes preparing dishes according to established recipes and guidelines, ensuring the food is flavorful, visually appealing, and consistent. Attention to detail, safety awareness, and cleanliness are essential, as the Cook I manages their workstation and adheres to proper food handling procedures. The position also demands physical stamina including the ability to walk or stand for extended periods and to lift moderate weights. Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
- Able to stand or walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions
- Punctual and reliable attendance
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- Knowledge of basic operation of kitchen equipment
- Understanding of food-handling procedures
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised
- Good working knowledge of food preparation
Job Duties
- Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations
- Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs
- Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation
- Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld
- Assist with kitchen teamwork and support other kitchen duties as assigned
- Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
