Job Description
Kaweah Health is a publicly owned, community healthcare organization dedicated to providing comprehensive health services to the greater Visalia area in central California. Founded on the principles of advanced medical care and community wellness, Kaweah Health is a cornerstone of health and healing with a workforce exceeding 5,000 employees. This expansive healthcare network includes an acute care hospital, multiple specialized health centers, and numerous clinics, spread across an eight-campus district housing 613 beds. Kaweah Health offers a broad continuum of medical services, from preventive care to highly specialized treatments, ensuring the needs of its diverse patient population are met with cutting-edge solutions and compassionate service.
Joining Kaweah Health means becoming part of a team where commitment to community and quality care are paramount. Employees here serve a region with significant medical needs, making the roles not only challenging but deeply rewarding. Every staff member contributes to impacts that extend beyond individual patient outcomes to enriching the overall health of loved ones and the broader community. Kaweah Health emphasizes personal growth and professional excellence, fostering an environment where healthcare professionals can thrive and make meaningful differences day-to-day.
The part-time cook position within the Food and Nutrition Services department at Kaweah Health plays a vital role in supporting the health system’s mission. This position involves the preparation of cold food menu items for the cafeteria, catering functions, and patient meals, adhering to established standardized recipes. The role is designed for individuals with culinary skills who can apply safe cooking practices, comply with Health Department codes, and maintain the highest levels of hygiene and sanitation. Working variable 8-hour or shorter shifts, this role requires flexibility and responsiveness to meet production schedules effectively.
The cook will utilize their knowledge of cooking procedures and equipment operation to prepare, season, cook, and serve a variety of foods including meats and vegetables. An understanding and application of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles is essential to ensure food safety at all stages of production. This position allows for hands-on involvement with multiple aspects of food preparation—slicing, shredding, measuring ingredients, and tasting to ensure quality standards. Additionally, workers will be tasked with setting up food stations timely and backing up production lines when necessary, demonstrating a sense of urgency and collaboration.
Kaweah Health offers a welcoming and supportive work environment where employees are encouraged to develop their skills further while playing a key role in public health. With a pay range from $21.20 to $31.80 per hour, this role is both competitively compensated and benefit eligible, reflecting the organization’s respect and care for its workforce. The position also requires adherence to stringent cleanliness and sanitation practices for equipment and work areas, maintaining both personal and food safety standards rigorously.
This opportunity is ideal for culinary professionals seeking to apply their expertise in a healthcare setting that values dedication and teamwork. Working at Kaweah Health means being a part of a larger purpose — to serve those in need with dignity and excellence every day. If you want to use your talents alongside courageous people committed to healthcare excellence in a supportive and empowering environment, Kaweah Health invites you to apply and contribute to making a lasting difference in the community.
