This full-time Cook I position at Oakwood University is an exciting opportunity to join Sodexo's culinary team in a dynamic and fast-paced setting. The role is essential in delivering high-quality dining experiences by preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of hot and cold food items according to Sodexo’s culinary standards on all meal periods and events. The Cook I works diligently to ensure food safety and sanitation standards are consistently upheld while maintaining a clean and organized station. This position requires flexibility as shifts can be varied to cover any meal period, and the pay range is $14 to $19 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
As a Cook I, you will be a key part of the kitchen team, responsible for preparing menu items accurately by following recipes and product directions. You will be expected to monitor food quality, taste dishes, and help plan food production to ensure adequate inventory levels and minimize waste. Physical endurance is important as the role involves standing or walking for extended periods and lifting weights up to 50 pounds occasionally. Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience
- knowledge of kitchen equipment and food-handling
- ability to read and follow recipes
- capacity to stand or walk for long periods
- ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- able to perform repetitive motions
- punctual and reliable
- open availability for any shift
- physical ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and pull
Job Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- knowledge of basic kitchen equipment operation
- familiarity with food-handling procedures
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- good working knowledge of food preparation
- ability to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
Job Duties
- Prepare food in accordance with federal, state and corporate standards
- follow recipes and product directions for cooking, seasoning and serving
- taste products and read menus to ensure quality
- estimate food requirements and maintain production records
- maintain mobility and physical endurance including walking and standing for extended periods
- perform repetitive motions
- arrive on time and attend scheduled shifts
- perform other duties as assigned based on business needs
