Job Description
Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities, including our honored war-wounded veterans. Since its inception in 1986, GCE has stood at the forefront of inclusive employment, striving to integrate capable team members into a variety of career paths that extend beyond traditional roles. The organization partners with a diverse array of customers, including the U.S. military, commercial businesses, community partners, and federal, state, and local governments. As a result, GCE has become one of the country's largest private employers of persons with disabilities, demonstrating a powerful commitment to workforce diversity and equitable employment practices.
Global Connections to Employment is actively seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Cook I. This role offers an essential opportunity to be part of a team that not only values the contributions of each team member but also supports their growth within various operational capacities. The Cook I position is responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a wide range of food items suitable for various meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events. This role is dynamic and customer-oriented, requiring team members to adapt to different business necessities and client requirements, which may vary among accounts.
Candidates selected for this full-time position can expect to earn a competitive wage starting at $20.40 per hour. In addition to this, GCE follows the Service Contract Act (SCA) provisions by applying Health and Welfare (H&W) dollars, currently set at $4.93 per eligible working hour, to support employee benefits. This ensures that employees receive quality healthcare and welfare support as part of their employment package.
Physical activity is a significant aspect of the Cook I role. Team members should be prepared for duties that may require bending, crouching, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, sitting for driving duties, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Working conditions are generally indoors; however, travel to various locations and buildings may be necessary throughout the year under different weather situations. This position may also involve the handling of cleaning chemicals, requiring appropriate safety handling and precautions.
The Cook I must demonstrate the ability to follow both oral and written instructions and possess essential kitchen knowledge for the operation of cooking equipment and recipe execution. Additionally, strong interpersonal skills are vital as the role requires appropriate interaction with customers, government personnel, subcontractors, management, and fellow team members. Adaptability, reliability, and the capacity to meet eligibility requirements for specified contracts are critical to succeed in this position.
This role is ideal for someone who values teamwork and is eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization that champions the cause of empowerment and independence among individuals with disabilities. GCE offers a supportive and flexible work environment with a positive culture focused on respecting and uplifting every team member. The schedule may vary, including early mornings, mid-mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet client and operational needs.
For interested candidates, the application process is straightforward and accessible via GCE's official website, with additional assistance available from Human Resources if needed. Global Connections to Employment, Inc. upholds Equal Opportunity employment practices, encouraging individuals with disabilities and veterans to apply and thrive in this rewarding role within a drug-free workplace environment where drug testing is mandatory.
