The position now available is for a Cook I at Chapman University under Sodexo’s management, a part-time role offering competitive pay ranging from $18.50 to $24.50 per hour. This position requires working varying shifts including days and hours with a preference for open availability to meet the dynamic needs of the university dining services. The Cook I role is essential in ensuring that all food prepared meets Sodexo’s high culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency. As a Cook I, the successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items suitable for all meal periods and special events on campus.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Perform significant walking or other means of mobility during shifts
  • Maintain the ability to walk or stand for extended periods, which may exceed 8 hours
  • Reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds
  • Perform repetitive motions as required
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned that may vary by account and client requirements
