The Cook Helper (Class I) position at Minnetonka Middle School East is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in contributing to the school community by supporting the kitchen and cafeteria operations. This part-time role offers 4 to 6 hours of work per day, with the flexibility for the applicant to choose their exact hours in half-hour increments, making it adaptable to various personal schedules. In this role, the Cook Helper will work under the guidance of the Cook Manager or Cook, assisting with various tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen. Responsibilities include heating, cooking, pre-dishing, portioning, garnishing, serving food, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and serving areas. The position also requires adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, proper handling and storage of food items, and sometimes performing point-of-sale and cashiering duties. This position is essential in providing an efficient and pleasant dining experience to students and staff.

Starting August 24, 2026, aligned with the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year, the successful candidate will be involved in a training and kitchen opening period scheduled just before school starts. The role is designed to support operations on all school days, with the possibility of the building assignment changing based on staffing needs. Candidates will find themselves working in a dynamic environment where teamwork, communication, and attention to detail are key.

Job Duties

  • Follows Cook Manager or Cook's instruction in heating, cooking, and pre-dishing food as well as setting up serving areas
  • Follows instructions in portioning, garnishing and serving of food items
  • Follows instructions and procedures in clean-up of kitchen and serving areas
  • Follows standards of safety and sanitation in handling, storing and serving of food items
  • Accurately performs record keeping functions as requested by Cook Manager
  • Assists in preparing food items
  • Performs point-of-sale and cashiering duties as part of kitchen rotation
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
