This specific role involves maintaining the sanitation and organization of all equipment and facilities used in food preparation, storage, and service within the Job Corps culinary environment. The role demands meticulous attention to cleanliness standards, operational efficiency, and safety protocols. Responsibilities include sanitizing kitchen equipment, cleaning storerooms, refrigerators, and freezers, managing the dish room and dishwashing procedures, and ensuring the dining areas and kitchens are clean and orderly. Additionally, the role requires supporting meal service by supplying dishes and utensils, assisting in food preparation and service following established menus, and managing waste disposal and cleanliness of trash containers.
Beyond operational tasks, this position engages in supervisory duties within the work-based learning program. The incumbent helps develop essential employability skills, social competencies, and career success standards among students working in the Food Service area. This mentoring aspect underscores the program's educational mission by integrating food service duties with broader academic, vocational, and leisure learning objectives.
The role also includes creating and supporting center-wide events that promote health and wellness, tailored to the needs and conduct of students and staff. Responsiveness to the individual needs and capabilities of students is crucial, alongside adaptability in managing various assigned tasks.
Qualifications for this position usually include three to six months of relevant experience or training and the ability to perform quantitative calculations using fractional and decimal units. A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required, with a valid Food Handler’s certification considered a strong preference.

Job Duties
- Keep all equipment used in the preparation, storage, and serving of food in sanitary condition
- Keep storerooms, walk-in refrigerators, and freezer clean and orderly
- Set up dish room and dishwashing machine before each meal
- Wash worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks
- Scrape food from dirty dishes and place them in the rack or on conveyor to dishwashing machine
- Sweep, mop, and wax cafeteria and kitchen floors
- Segregate and remove trash and garbage and place it in designated containers
- Steam clean or hose out garbage cans
- Set up dining room tables
- Keep service line supplied with dishes, silverware, glasses, milk, food, etc. during service times
- Assist in preparing and serving food in accordance with pre-planned menus
- Help supervise work-based learning program to include the development of student's employability, social skills and career success standards while in the Food Service area
- Explore innovative ways to incorporate Food Services into the academic, vocational and leisure time learning programs
- Establish center wide events for trainees and staff that promote health and wellness learning
- Respond to student conduct, abilities, and needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
