As a part of the Xanterra Travel Collection, they are the primary authorized concessionaire at the Grand Canyon South Rim, proudly committed to preserving the natural beauty of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. This company cherishes the remarkable beauty, peace, and scenic grandeur of the Grand Canyon while delivering top-notch hospitality to visitors from all over the world. Employees here not only perform a job but also serve as proud stewards of the park, contributing to memorable guest experiences through warm and friendly service.
The role of Cook at Grand Canyon National Park Lodges offers a full-time, year-round employment opportunity with competitive pay ranging from $17.45 to $19.75 per hour depending on experience. This position involves working typically 40 hours per week across five days, with a schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Cooks at the South Rim will gain experience working across all kitchen stations using various kitchen equipment in dynamic environments characterized by batch production, high-volume a la carte orders, prep work, pantry duties, and dishwashing tasks.
This role provides not just a job but a unique lifestyle experience. Employee benefits include dormitory-style housing at $20 per week, cafeteria-style on-site meals, free laundry facilities, shuttle services, and Wi-Fi access with limited bandwidth. The position fosters a fast-paced but supportive work environment that encourages upward mobility and growth opportunities within the company. Employees have the chance to meet diverse people from across the nation and globe, bonded by a shared passion for the environment and excellent hospitality.
Additional benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off and holidays, disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance, a 401k plan with employer matching, employee assistance programs, wellness initiatives, and ongoing learning and development programs. Beyond standard benefits, perks of working at the Grand Canyon South Rim include a free Grand Canyon National Park pass, access to a recreational center equipped with fitness equipment and computers with Wi-Fi, a paid day off on the employee's birthday, discounted mule rides, complimentary Grand Canyon Railway train rides, special discounts for retail, lodging and travel, organized employee trips and activities, and a $350 referral bonus program. This unique combination of benefits and perks truly makes this the adventure of a lifetime for culinary professionals.
In the Cook role, the employee is responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, sanitation, and timely service of dishes. The job entails ensuring consistency in food preparation techniques, portion control, plating as outlined in recipes, proper product rotation, and mise en place. Cooks prepare a variety of foods using a range of kitchen tools and equipment including knives, electric mixers, ovens, fryers, gas stoves, griddles, and broilers. This position suits individuals who enjoy challenging, multifaceted kitchens and who are motivated to develop their culinary skills in a supportive and environmentally conscious community.
