Job Description

This job opportunity is with a senior living community that prioritizes the health, comfort, and well-being of its residents. Senior living communities like this one play a vital role in providing specialized care and services tailored to older adults, offering not just housing but also nutritional support, healthcare access, and social engagement. The environment is dynamic, often involving close collaboration among healthcare professionals, dietary staff, and support personnel to ensure residents receive a high standard of care in all aspects of their daily lives. The community emphasizes creating a positive dining experience, recognizing the critical impact that proper nutrition and enjoyable meals have on the residents' overall quality of life.

The role of Cook in this senior living community is essential to the successful delivery of nutritious, safe, and appetizing meals that adhere to established dietary guidelines. The Cook reports directly to the Dietary Manager and holds a non-exempt status, indicating this is an hourly position with eligibility for overtime pay as appropriate. The position operates on a part-time basis with weekend responsibilities every other week and requires flexibility to cover meal service needs that may include weekends and holidays. This scheduling approach reflects the continuous demand inherent in senior living meal preparation and service.

As a Cook, the primary responsibility is to prepare and cook meals in accordance with the posted menus and standardized recipes while maintaining high standards for food safety and sanitation. This involves skillful preparation of a broad range of meals, including special therapeutic or modified diets tailored to residents' health requirements. The Cook ensures meals are not only nutritious but also visually appealing and served at correct temperatures, directly affecting resident satisfaction and health outcomes.

The role involves supporting kitchen operations through effective teamwork, coordinating with prep cooks and other kitchen staff to maintain a smooth workflow. Responsibilities include assisting with inventory control, restocking, and rotating supplies, as well as promptly reporting any issues with equipment or shortages to ensure uninterrupted meal service. Maintaining a clean and sanitary environment in all areas of food preparation and cooking is imperative to comply with health department regulations and food safety standards.

Beyond meal preparation, the Cook supports a positive dining atmosphere and interacts respectfully and professionally with residents, families, and coworkers. Responding to food-related concerns and communicating feedback to leadership are important aspects of customer service within this role. The Cook is expected to adhere to company policies, participate in required training sessions, and uphold professional standards of appearance, punctuality, and dependability.

Physical demands of this role include regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and frequent lifting or moving of kitchen equipment and supplies, with the ability to lift up to 50-100 pounds. The work environment features a moderate to high noise level as typical in senior living kitchens and dining settings.

This position offers individuals an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team making a direct impact on the lives of seniors by ensuring their nutritional needs are met with care and professionalism. Candidates with previous cooking or food service experience, particularly those familiar with senior living, healthcare, or institutional dining settings, are encouraged to apply. Food safety certification and specialized training related to community health and safety further enhance the qualifications for this role.
