The available position within Village Inn is focused on operations within the restaurant, specifically supporting the kitchen and food preparation area. This role is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), primarily centered around preparing menu items efficiently and safely while following established company procedures, recipes, and menu specifications. As part of the operations team, the employee will demonstrate a strong passion for serving customers by ensuring all menu items are prepared to high standards, properly presented, and delivered promptly. The employee will also uphold food safety and health department regulations, maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the working environment, and exhibit professionalism in appearance and conduct.
Encompassing more than just food preparation, this position involves active communication with management, co-workers, and guests, particularly during busy hours, to sustain a courteous workplace culture. The role requires attention to detail in monitoring food portions using correct tools, adhering to cost control practices, and assisting management in inventory and food storage standards. Responsibilities include both opening and closing duties and occasionally providing backup support as directed.
Ideal candidates for this role will be at least 16 years old, able to work efficiently under time constraints, and capable of functioning in a diverse, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. While no certifications are required, successful completion of initial and ongoing training is expected along with adherence to company values and customer service standards. Physical demands include moving about the workplace frequently, lifting moderate weights, and maintaining a visually attentive focus on tasks.

Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years old and meet any other state age or labor requirements
Job Qualifications
- Successful completion of required training, including reading training materials, watching videos and completing on-the-job checklists and written quizzes
- minimum of six months of related experience is preferred
- must be able to follow menu specifications and recipes, read tickets and maintain an organized and sanitary work area
- must be able to follow directions, work in a fast-paced, high-pressure customer responsive environment
- must be able to work in a team environment and communicate with co-workers and management
- uses sound judgment in day-to-day decisions by applying the company’s vision, values and culture
Job Duties
- Accurately prepares food orders within eight minutes from the time the order is entered into the computer system
- clean and stock cook line thoroughly throughout the shift
- utilize proper tools such as scoops, ladles and kitchen utensils to keep food cost under control
- demonstrate respect for each individual by always communicating courteously and respectfully with management team, co-workers and guests even during peak hours
- adhere to all safe food handling and health department guidelines
- follow all safe food handling and equipment procedures during cooking
- exhibit integrity in all actions by meeting company standards in appearance, grooming, security and sanitation
- wash and sanitize cutting boards and counter tops between tasks
- assist management with proper storing of food items and supplies
- understand product shelf life, dating procedures and serve appropriate food
- complete opening and/or closing duties
- backup DMO functions as requested
- enthusiastically acknowledge guests with the company’s five-foot rule
- perform all other duties as assigned
