Job Description

Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) is a renowned faith-based nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota, dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults through comprehensive housing, care, and service options. Established in 1955, PHS has grown to become one of the largest nonprofit providers of senior living and services in the nation, serving more than 41,800 older adults with the help of approximately 8,000 employees. The organization operates 60 affiliated senior living communities across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and also extends its services through Optage® home and community services. Additionally, PHS co-owns Genevive, Minnesota’s largest geriatric primary care practice, which supports over 15,500 older adults with high-quality healthcare.

Avalon Square, a part of the PHS network, is conveniently located in downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin, offering senior living just steps away from city amenities. This community fosters a supportive, vibrant, and inclusive environment where residents, staff, and families come together to create a warm and fun atmosphere. At Avalon Square, employees find purpose and fulfillment working with like-minded individuals who are passionate about caring for older adults — aligning with PHS’s mission to honor God by enriching lives and touching hearts.

Avalon Square is currently seeking a full-time cook to join their dedicated culinary team. The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $18.33 to $20.73, based on experience, and includes a consistent schedule with shifts from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with weekend and holiday rotations. Working at Avalon Square provides an opportunity to contribute to creating high-quality meals and positive dining experiences that meet established nutritional and regulatory standards. The cook's role is central to enhancing the health and satisfaction of residents by preparing attractive, nutritious, and palatable meals.

As a cook at Avalon Square, employees also benefit from a close-knit team environment supported by the larger Presbyterian Homes & Services organization, which provides opportunities for career development and growth. The workplace culture prioritizes empowerment, engagement, and inspiration among team members. Employees enjoy consistent hours without late nights, competitive pay with routine increases, same-day pay, free fitness center access, off-street parking, and convenient transportation links.

PHS’s commitment goes beyond job responsibilities; it actively fosters an inclusive, respectful workplace that reflects the organization’s Christian ministry values. This foundation ensures that all actions align with their mission and embody the spirit of grace and compassion. Applicants and employees who support this culture, alongside possessing the necessary skills, are welcomed and valued.

In summary, joining Avalon Square as a cook means becoming part of a faith-driven, innovative non-profit community dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults. It offers a meaningful career with competitive benefits and work-life balance in a thriving community setting, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals called to serve and make a positive impact every day.
