The Cook position at McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, offers both full-time and part-time employment opportunities with flexible schedules that may include weekends and evenings. This role is vital in delivering high-quality foodservice that meets federal, state, and corporate standards. The pay range for this position is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour. As a Cook, the employee is responsible for preparing food following standardized recipes and food safety guidelines to ensure consistent quality and taste. Responsibilities include proper portioning, maintaining serving temperatures, and ensuring presentation meets company standards. The role demands attention to detail in both food preparation and kitchen cleanliness, including safe storage of food and maintenance of kitchen equipment. The Cook also plays a role in inventory management by assisting with food ordering and receipt, record keeping, and reporting. A strong focus on safety is required, including adherence to all company policies regarding the use of protective gear such as gloves and slip-resistant shoes.

Job Duties

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules
  • serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty
  • tastes all prepared food items
  • uses established ticket collection procedures during service
  • cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness
  • stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
  • keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat
  • ensures food and supply items are stored per standards
  • operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
  • assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required
  • assists in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required
  • reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately
  • attends in-service and safety meetings
