The Cook position at The Glen is a unique opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about preparing high-quality meals that not only satisfy nutritional needs but also bring joy to the dining experience of residents. As a Cook, you will play an essential role in the daily life of our senior residents by preparing nutritious and delicious meals following established cycle menus, production guides, and standardized recipes. This role emphasizes maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organization to ensure a safe and efficient meal preparation environment.

In this role, the Cook will be responsible for cooking large quantities of food while preserving the quality and presentation that make each meal special. Attention to detail is critical as the meals must meet nutrition and portion standards set forth by the organization. The Cook also follows strict food safety protocols, including proper labeling, dating, and rotation of food items to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

Collaboration is at the heart of the kitchen environment at The Glen. The Cook will work closely with a dedicated dining services team to ensure that meal schedules are met, and special events are supported with additional food preparation and service as needed. Maintaining clean and organized kitchen spaces and equipment hygiene is a continuous responsibility to promote health and safety standards.

This position offers flexible scheduling options, including a full-time opportunity on a rotating schedule with early morning to mid-afternoon shifts and part-time shifts during prime weekend hours. Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 90 lbs
  • frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • ability to work in a warm kitchen environment and temperature changes (refrigerators/freezers)

Job Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of cooking experience in a restaurant, healthcare, or institutional kitchen preferred
  • ability to cook from scratch and follow standardized recipes
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to cycle menus, production guides, and standardized recipes
  • cook in large quantities while maintaining food quality and presentation
  • ensure meals meet nutrition and portion standards
  • follow all food safety, sanitation, and handling procedures
  • maintain a clean and organized kitchen and properly clean equipment after use
  • label, date, and rotate food items according to policy
  • assist with inventory and preparation for upcoming meals
  • support food preparation and service for special events as needed
  • work collaboratively with the dining services team to meet meal schedules
