Unidine is currently hiring for full-time and part-time Cook positions at The Cedars located at 630 Ocean Avenue in Portland, ME. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about food preparation and eager to join a reputable company with a fun, collaborative work environment. The Cook will prepare high-quality food items following standardized recipes, ensuring that all meals meet Unidine’s strict quality and safety standards. Candidates with prior cooking experience are preferred; however, Unidine emphasizes its willingness to train motivated individuals who are committed to developing their culinary skills. The position offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $20.00 per hour. Work schedules are flexible, with hours and days varying, providing options suitable for different availability preferences. In this role, the Cook will be a vital part of the culinary team, contributing to the delivery of nutritious, delicious meals that brighten the dining experience for residents and customers. The position requires adhering to federal, state, and corporate guidelines, handling food safely, and ensuring food presentation, portion control, and temperature are consistently maintained. Beyond cooking, this role involves operating kitchen equipment properly, assisting in inventory management, and helping maintain organized and sanitary food storage areas. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior cooking experience preferred
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen tasks
- Must be able to follow safety and hygiene protocols
- Ability to work varying schedules including full-time and part-time hours
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Basic math skills for portioning and record keeping
Job Qualifications
- Prior cooking experience preferred
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and food preparation guidelines
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices and HACCP standards
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

- Familiarity with kitchen equipment operation
- Commitment to safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment
Job Duties
- Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules
- Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty
- Tastes all prepared food items to ensure quality
- Uses established ticket collection procedures during service
- Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness
- Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
- Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat
- Ensures food and supply items are stored per standards
- Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
- Assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required
- Assists in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required
- Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately
- Attends in-service and safety meetings
- Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators and managers
- Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment
- Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures
- follows HACCP standards
- Uses personal protective equipment such as medium weight cut gloves, oven mitts, fryer gloves or steamer gloves when handling sharp objects and hot pans
- Follows all company policies and procedures regarding safety and food handling
