The role of Cook at Maplewood Senior Living is crucial to maintaining the high-quality dietary services that residents rely on. This full-time position offers a salary starting at $22 an hour and involves preparing and servicing meals for the dietary department in adherence to strict dietary standards, policies, and procedures. The cook is responsible for ensuring that all meals are prepared safely and appetizingly following the philosophy and values of Maplewood Senior Living. The job encompasses a wide range of culinary duties from food preparation to supervising serving staff in the absence of the Culinary Services Director. The cook works diligently to maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment, demonstrating knowledge and skill in utilizing kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, steam tables, and refrigerators.
In addition to food preparation, the cook is tasked with overseeing inventory control alongside the Culinary Services Director, ensuring that resident dietary requirements are strictly followed. Attention to detail is essential, as the cook must account for meals served to residents, employees, and guests, while promptly reporting any loss, breakage, or waste of supplies or equipment. This position demands the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while delivering superior quality food in large quantities. Strong communication skills and leadership abilities are required to guide and instruct other kitchen staff effectively. The cook must maintain professionalism under pressure and show a keen awareness of the needs of both coworkers and residents, always respecting their rights and adhering to community policies regarding resident care. Job Duties
- Assists or prepares food items and serves food to residents within scheduled time frame
- cleans and maintains food service areas, including kitchen and dining room
- assists Culinary Services Director in maintaining inventory control
- supervises servers in the absence of the Culinary Service Director
- maintains clean, neat, and safe work environment
- demonstrates knowledge of kitchen equipment including but not limited to ovens, slicers, mixers, steam tables, steamers, toasters, coffee pots, refrigerators, and freezers
- assures that resident’s diets are being followed
