Kindred Hospital Seattle - First Hill is a well-established 80-bed long-term acute care hospital located in the heart of downtown Seattle. The hospital is renowned for offering specialized in-depth care that mirrors the level of care provided in traditional hospitals but focuses on extended recovery periods. The setting ensures patients receive 24-hour clinical care seven days a week, partnering closely with physicians to facilitate each patient's journey toward wellness and recovery. The hospital's location is highly convenient, surrounded by a variety of shops and restaurants accessible within walking distance, creating a comfortable environment for both patients and staff.
This role is crucial within the hospital's culinary services, involving the preparation and serving of food for patients, employees, and special events while maintaining stringent food safety and nutritional standards. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for adhering to department policies and procedures, including following standardized recipes and menus, ensuring the proper portioning and serving of food according to patient diet orders, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in the work environment. This position demands a strong focus on safe food handling, compliance with federal, state, and city food regulations, and meticulous attention to menu management using computerized systems.
Beyond the core food preparation and serving duties, the role encompasses responsibilities such as receiving, labeling, storing food, maintaining accurate temperature logs, and assisting with inventory management. The Food Service Worker must ensure that all food is served at the correct temperature and properly labeled, and that waste is minimized through efficient use of supplies. Safety and sanitation are paramount, requiring diligent cleaning of all food prep areas, equipment operation, and responsible adherence to infection control practices including the use of personal protective equipment as required.
The candidate should demonstrate effective communication skills to interact successfully with patients, their families, and colleagues across various departments. Team cooperation and the ability to take on kitchen leadership roles when needed are essential. Additionally, participation in the hospital's performance improvement initiatives and compliance activities for surveys and corrective actions form integral components of the job.
Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience in quantity food preparation in settings such as hospitals, nursing centers, or restaurants. Knowledge in therapeutic diets and food safety certifications such as a Food Protection Manager's Certification or ServSafe is mandatory, with certification completion expected within 90 days of hire. A good command of English, basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office and menu management software, along with demonstrated reliability and attendance, are required.
The position offers an hourly pay range of $20.76 to $28.04 and is part of the comprehensive benefits program provided by ScionHealth, including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings plans, and wellness programs, making it an attractive opportunity for those dedicated to healthcare food service excellence.
