Within this extensive network, Inland Northwest Behavioral Health Hospital represents a unique collaboration between Universal Health Services and Providence Health Services, marking the first free-standing mental health hospital in Spokane, Washington. This hospital is deeply committed to meeting the behavioral health needs of its community through compassionate, mission-driven care.
We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook/Chef to join our behavioral health hospital team. This full-time position, requiring availability of 32 to 40 hours per week including weekends, plays an essential role in supporting patient recovery and well-being through nutrition. The ideal candidate will have a passion for culinary excellence combined with the ability to follow therapeutic diet requirements and behavioral health safety protocols. This role requires preparing fresh, appealing meals that are not only nutritious but also supportive of the healing environment specific to behavioral health patients.
The Cook/Chef will work closely with the dietitian and other dietary staff to ensure menu accuracy, food quality, and presentation standards are consistently met. Responsibilities also include maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment in compliance with regulatory and behavioral health-specific safety standards. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Culinary training, certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
- Five or more years of professional cooking experience in healthcare, school/institution food service or commercial dining
- Ability to work full time 32 to 40 hours per week including weekends
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Culinary training, certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- 5 or more years of professional cooking experience in healthcare, school/institution food service or commercial dining
Job Duties
- Prepare high-quality, visually appealing meals for patients and staff
- Follow therapeutic diet orders, texture modifications, and BH safety protocols
- Support menu preparation, food production, and presentation standards
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment
- Assist with inventory, food prep, and teamwork across the dietary department
