Buckner Retirement Services is currently seeking a full-time Cook to join the Calder Woods community. The Cook will play a vital role in delivering outstanding food services to senior residents, preparing meals for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner according to established quality, service, and hospitality standards. This position is essential in ensuring that all food served meets or exceeds Buckner's high standards through careful preparation, cooking, presentation, and portion control. The Cook will be responsible for preparing a variety of menu items using standardized recipes from The Stayton and managing food inventory and supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.

In this role, the Cook will engage in all phases of food preparation to provide nourishing, palatable, and visually appealing meals that contribute to residents’ well-being and satisfaction. Responsibilities extend from planning and selecting menu ingredients, obtaining supplies in a timely fashion, cooking meals while monitoring quality aspects such as taste, smell, and temperature, to maintaining detailed records of meal counts and inventories. The Cook is expected to operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards rigorously. Physical demands include the ability to lift food service equipment frequently and stand or walk for prolonged periods, which reflects the active nature of this essential role.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • State Issued Food Serve Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Minimum one-year related experience
  • Knowledge of food serving, cleanliness, and sanitation requirements
  • Ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or 20 pounds continuously to move food service and preparation equipment and other objects
  • Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to turn, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, stand and walk over 75 percent of shift

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items using standardized recipes and ensure quality and service standards
  • Prepare meals based on menu requirements
  • Review menus and select appropriate ingredients and supplies for meal preparation
  • Obtain necessary supplies from storage areas timely for meal production
  • Cook meals that are nourishing, palatable, and appetizing using standard recipes
  • Monitor food quality during production for taste, smell, appearance, and temperature
  • Prepare meals efficiently and cost-effectively while utilizing equipment safely
  • Obtain approval from supervisor on food substitutions
  • Maintain meal count and documentation records
  • Monitor for overproduction and recommend use of leftovers
  • Maintain food inventories and complete requisition forms
