The Cook position available at Bergen Vocational in Hackensack, NJ represents a full-time role within the Chartwells K12 family. The job offers a dynamic working schedule generally from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm, though days may vary based on operational needs. With a competitive hourly pay rate ranging from $18.00 to $20.00, the position is designed for individuals passionate about food preparation and delivering quality meals in accordance with federal, state, and corporate standards. As a Cook at Chartwells K12, the individual will be involved in preparing food items based on standardized recipes to meet production schedules effectively. This includes serving meals directly or preparing them for delivery, ensuring the food is appealing, tasty, and presented attractively. The role also encompasses tasting food items to guarantee quality, maintaining cleanliness in kitchen areas, and handling food storage safely to prevent waste or contamination. Working closely with the team, this position requires operating and maintaining kitchen equipment, assisting with inventory, and reporting any maintenance or safety issues promptly. Job Requirements
- Prior cooking experience preferred
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to food preparation and kitchen work
- Ability to work varying full-time shifts including early mornings
- Must comply with company safety and hygiene standards
- Willingness to participate in training and safety meetings
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Job Duties
- Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions
- Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning and meeting outlined standards
- Tastes all prepared food items to ensure quality
- Uses established ticket collection procedures during service
- Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving maintaining cleanliness standards
- Stores or discards excess food following safe food-handling procedures
- Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
- Assists in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required
- Assists in ordering and receiving food and supplies
- Reports maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to supervisor immediately
- Attends in-service and safety meetings
- Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers
- Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment
- Ensures proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures following HACCP standards
