Job Description

St. James Place is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook to join their culinary team. This full-time position offers shifts from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm and 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, with every third weekend off, making it a balanced opportunity for work-life integration. The role comes with a generous bonus program that provides $250 total, awarded incrementally after 30 and 90 days of employment when certain requirements are met.

The Cook plays an essential role in preparing the kitchen and food production areas, ensuring that nutritious and palatable meals are creatively prepared in alignment with established recipes. This position is vital to providing safe, high-quality food service that meets the needs and preferences of residents, including those on special diets prescribed by physicians. The Cook is responsible for accurately forecasting food quantities, procuring ingredients, and maintaining the highest standards of sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen environment.

This role demands a high level of culinary expertise, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate leadership by training and guiding production aides and waitstaff, ensuring that all kitchen policies and procedures are adhered to, and setting an exemplary standard of quality and efficiency. This position requires the ability to adapt to dynamic situations, maintain a positive attitude, and work cooperatively with peers, management, and residents. Physical stamina is essential as the role involves extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, bending, and stooping.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • at least 5 years of supervised cooking experience
  • able to read and follow oral and written instructions
  • basic computer skills
  • ability to lift heavy objects and stand or walk for extended periods
  • good personal hygiene
  • professional dress and wearing ID badge
  • able to work full-time shifts including weekends
  • commitment to safety and sanitation standards

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • basic computer skills
  • formal education as a Cook preferred
  • minimum 5 years of supervised cooking experience
  • trained in food preparation, estimating quantities, sanitation and safe food handling

Job Duties
