The role of the Cook at MBK Senior Living is an essential position responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing, and well-presented meals that meet established recipes, menus, and special dietary needs. Reporting to the Director of Dining Services, the Cook oversees the Food Services Department, ensuring that all meals are prepared following governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage between $21.00 and $23.00 and follows a schedule from Thursday to Monday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
The Cook’s primary duties include preparing food in a timely manner, ensuring proper food storage and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, managing food inventory efficiently, and supervising dining services personnel such as servers and dishwashers. Attention to detail in plate presentation, temperature control, and adherence to health and safety standards is critical. The position demands physical endurance, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Age over 18 years
- Background clearance as required by government regulations
- Retain a current food handler's permit
- Minimum of two years' experience cooking
- Negative TB test results
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak, write and read English
- Ability to operate computer, necessary software programs (word, email, excel), scanners, copiers, and fax machines
- Ability to be professional at all times with other team members, residents, family members, and visitors

Job Duties
- Arrive to work on time and prepared for your shift
- Prepare all food items in accordance with planned menus and recipes provided and ensuring the meals are appetizing, nutritional, and meets all special dietary requests or requirements
- Ensure all food is served at the correct temperature and charted as such
- Ensure proper plate presentation
- Consult with the Director of Dining Services on any menu changes or substitutions
- Ensure food storage areas are clean and organized at all times
- Prepare food according to all governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations as well as established policies and procedures
- Report any infractions to Director of Dining Services immediately
- Receive and manage food orders when they arrive in a timely manner
- Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies
- Ensure all leftovers are properly stored, labeled, and dated
- Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas
- Supervise servers and dishwashers
- Prepare upcoming menu items ensuring they are stocked and pulled as directed by recipes
- Manage safe storage and efficient use of kitchen inventory
- Promote a positive and friendly team work attitude
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Dining Services, Sous Chef, or Executive Director
