Job Description
Community Helping Addicts Negotiate Chance Effectively (CHANCE) is a peer recovery support center and emergency housing shelter based in Albany, Oregon. This organization is dedicated to providing essential services to individuals struggling with addiction and homelessness by offering not only shelter but also nutritious meals to support their recovery journey. At CHANCE, the focus is on creating a supportive and structured environment where individuals can find stability, nourishment, and community. The center serves more than 100 individuals per meal, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a consistent meal plan that is designed to meet the nutritional needs of all guests. CHANCE acts as a crucial safety net for vulnerable populations in Albany, helping them transition to a healthier lifestyle and regain stability in their lives.
The role being offered is a full-time Cook position that plays a vital role in the daily operations of the CHANCE kitchen. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining the high standards of food safety, nutrition, and sanitation that the center upholds. The Cook will prepare meals according to specified recipes and meal plans to ensure that all guests receive the same nutritious meal without variations or special orders. Working closely with the Kitchen Manager and other cooks, the Cook will prepare, serve, and clean up meals, contributing to a smooth-running kitchen that provides essential services to the community.
This full-time position involves working primarily over weekends and some weekdays, with shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm, and on Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. The Cook will handle various kitchen duties such as baking, grilling, steaming, and boiling meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods. Additional responsibilities include measuring and mixing ingredients, plating and serving food, unloading deliveries, stocking and rotating food supplies, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Beyond the technical kitchen skills, this job requires adherence to CHANCE's Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures, ensuring a respectful and confidential atmosphere for all guests and staff. The environment is fast-paced and requires strong time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently. This role is essential to the mission of CHANCE, contributing not only to the nutrition and well-being of its guests but also helping to create a positive and supportive atmosphere that aids in recovery and community rebuilding.
The offered rate for this role starts at $20.00 per hour and includes valuable benefits such as dental insurance, health insurance, vision insurance, and paid time off, making it a rewarding opportunity for those interested in making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals facing addiction and homelessness while advancing their career in food service within a meaningful nonprofit environment.
