Job Description

Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public educational institution dedicated to fostering a nurturing and positive learning environment for students across multiple sites, including its Early Childhood Center located in Englewood, Colorado. The district emphasizes community involvement, high educational standards, and collaboration among staff, students, and parents. With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, Sheridan School District supports a variety of programs aimed at promoting the academic achievement and well-being of its students. The district also offers comprehensive employee benefits to eligible staff, ensuring a supportive work environment.

The Early Childhood Center within Sheridan School District is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join its food services team. This role is a classified, hourly non-exempt position scheduled for 173 calendar days per year, with a work schedule of 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The Cook will report directly to the Multi-Site Kitchen Manager and plays a vital role in assisting with food preparation and service, ensuring compliance with USDA guidelines and maintaining health and safety standards.

This Cook position requires flexibility, quick adaptability, and the ability to work efficiently within set time limits to meet the needs of the school community. Duties include preparing food items according to established portions and presentation standards, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in work areas, and supporting inventory control through stock rotation and accurate receipt checking. The Cook must promote good community relations by delivering excellent service and fostering a positive atmosphere for both school and community members.

The role also demands a professional demeanor, adherence to personal cleanliness rules, and compliance with all state and local health regulations, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all stakeholders. Essential physical requirements include frequent lifting, standing for extended periods, and the ability to perform various physical activities associated with food preparation and service. While supervisory responsibilities are not part of this role, the Cook is expected to collaborate effectively with supervisors and co-workers, contribute to a positive workplace culture, and support the district's strategic goals.

Qualified candidates will have some knowledge of commercial cooking and baking, familiarity with commercial cooking equipment, and basic math skills. Computer literacy, particularly with Point of Sale systems, is important, and bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is desirable. The position also requires passing a thorough background check, including FBI fingerprinting through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, to ensure student safety and regulatory compliance.

Eligible employees working 30 or more hours weekly can access a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with supplemental benefits. The position also participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA), requiring contributions from employees and matching contributions from the district.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates passionate about food service within an educational setting to contribute meaningfully to the Sheridan School District community. Applicants are encouraged to complete the online application through the district's official website, as incomplete applications or resumes will not be considered.
