Job Description

Denver Health is an integrated, high-quality academic health care system widely recognized as a national model for comprehensive healthcare delivery. The system encompasses a Level I Trauma Center, a 555-bed acute care medical center, Denver's 911 emergency medical response system, numerous family and school-based health centers, a poison and drug safety center, and multiple specialized healthcare programs. As Colorado's primary safety-net healthcare provider, Denver Health serves countless patients each year, including the uninsured, through its mission-driven commitment to community health and well-being. Located near downtown Denver, the organization is well-positioned within a vibrant community rich with cultural and recreational opportunities. Denver Health is dedicated to providing equitable employment opportunities, valuing unique ideas, talents, and contributions reflective of the diverse needs of the community it serves. It also requires pre-employment drug screening for safety-sensitive positions to maintain the highest standards of care and workplace safety.

The Cook - Food and Nutrition Services role at Denver Health offers exciting mission-driven opportunities within the Food Services Department. Available in full-time, part-time, and intermittent capacities, this position plays a vital role in preparing and cooking food for hospital patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring nutritional standards and dietary restrictions are met. The cook prepares food according to established recipes and menus while maintaining compliance with HACCP guidelines and regulatory agency standards. This role is fundamental in delivering quality meals, supporting the overall patient care and hospital experience.

Working as a Cook at Denver Health involves preparing food at a la carte and grill stations, carefully following orders and verbal instructions to accommodate special dietary and nutritional needs. The role requires operating various kitchen equipment and utensils to measure, blend, chop, slice, and mix ingredients, as well as performing tasks such as washing, peeling, and shredding food. The candidate must accurately take and record food and refrigeration temperatures and log corrective actions to ensure food safety and quality. The position also involves monitoring and reporting equipment or food supply issues and maintaining sanitary and safety standards throughout the food preparation process. Denver Health invests in employee success by offering a competitive hourly wage ranging between $21.00 and $25.25 and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees' lives, families, and careers.

This position is suited for individuals with little to no prior experience who are eager to develop their culinary skills within a dynamic healthcare setting. The ideal candidate must possess knowledge of food preparation techniques, the ability to follow recipes and instructions, and understanding of safety hazards and cleaning protocols to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
