Job Description

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is a renowned not-for-profit hospital located in Honolulu, Hawaii, specializing exclusively in maternity, newborn, and pediatric care. As the only facility of its kind in Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Medical Center is recognized as a leader in women's and children's health care. The hospital features 253 beds and delivers approximately 6,000 babies annually. It serves not only the state of Hawai'i but also the broader Pacific region through its extensive range of specialty services. These include intensive care units tailored for infants and children, 24-hour emergency care services for both pediatric and adult patients, critical care air transport, and high-risk perinatal care. The hospital also functions as a medical teaching and research institution, contributing significantly to advancements in healthcare. With a dedicated team of over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians, Kapi'olani Medical Center ensures exceptional specialty care for its patients. It is also the home of the Kapi'olani Women's Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, adding further depth to its specialized healthcare offerings. In addition to clinical services, the hospital supports the community through various programs and services such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center, and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

The Cook - Food and Nutrition position is an integral role within the hospital's Food and Nutrition Services department, which is dedicated to providing quality, nutritious meals to patients, visitors, and staff members. This department not only focuses on food service but also plays a critical educational role by promoting healthy eating habits throughout the hospital community. The Cook is responsible for preparing food in alignment with established recipes and production guidelines, covering a diverse range of menu items such as standard entrees, meats, soups, gravies, and specially modified diets to meet patients' medical requirements. A key focus of this role is maintaining high standards regarding the quality, freshness, flavor, and appearance of all meals served. This position requires reliability, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to cleanliness to support the hospital’s mission of delivering excellent care through nutrition. The Cook must also thrive in a team-oriented setting, collaborating effectively with others within the Food and Nutrition Services team. The role demands flexibility as it operates on a rotating 8-hour shift schedule and adheres to full-time regular employment terms with a standard Teamsters bargaining unit classification. Pay for this position ranges between $27.46 and $28.90 per hour, reflecting the need for experienced and skilled candidates who can contribute to the hospital’s dedication to a healthier Hawai'i. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with passion for service and food safety, ideally holding a Food Handler’s Certification along with vocational training in food service.
