Job Requirements

  • Possess current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential with Steward's Department and Food Handler endorsement or higher
  • Possess a Transportation Worker Identification Card
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds
  • Complete pre-employment physical examination and annual physical exams thereafter
  • Participate in mandatory drug testing programs
  • Ability to work split shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Appointment subject to suitability or fitness determination based on background investigation

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of a Cook dual rate without more than normal supervision
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used for cooking for groups
  • Experience preparing various meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, and baked goods
  • Demonstrated ability to perform physical duties such as lifting up to 45 pounds
  • U.S. citizenship

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve meals aboard a Hopper Dredge to all crew members
  • Prepare various meats such as poultry, fish, chops, steaks, roasts
  • Prepare various vegetables and fruits by cutting, grinding, dicing, and slicing
  • Prepare foods such as soups, stews, gravies, and sauces
  • Bake bread, cakes, and pastries
  • Portion food for individual servings
  • Maintain all areas in a clean and orderly condition
