The role of Cook at Gate Gourmet is critical in maintaining the high standards of food preparation required for airline catering. Working at a starting pay rate of $25.00 per hour, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of food items following specific recipes and airline guidelines. This position demands attention to detail, adherence to strict hygiene and safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume production environment. The Cook will also act as a lead by monitoring the production quality and supporting leadership in ensuring that all culinary outputs meet or exceed expectations.
Responsibilities include assembling equipment according to airline specifications, managing the packaging and preparation of alcoholic beverages for flights, and ensuring sanitation compliance in all production areas. The Cook will document inventory accurately and follow instructions diligently while functioning as an integral team member. Flexibility is required since work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Qualified candidates typically hold a culinary degree or cook certification and have at least two years of experience in high-volume institutional catering. Experience with recipe conversions and maintaining temperature logs is essential to meet daily kitchen demands. The work environment can involve exposure to temperature extremes and noise, and physical demands include lifting and moving products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly during shifts.

Job Qualifications
- Culinary degree and/or cook certification is preferred
- at least 2 years of experience cooking in a high volume institutional catering environment is preferred
- experience with maintaining temperature logs for all food items prepared
- recipe conversion experience required to accommodate the kitchen’s daily production needs
- ability to read, write, and follow food specifications and menu guidelines
- effective communication skills with supervisors and co-workers
