The role of Cook at Forefront is vital in the food service operations, particularly within healthcare dietary settings. The Cook is responsible for preparing meals according to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. This role involves assisting in the preparation of meals for residents, families, and employees, as well as helping with meal delivery and order taking as needed. The Cook works under the direction of the Chef Manager or Director and follows standardized recipes, portioning guidelines, menu extensions, and presentation standards to maintain quality and consistency. They also engage in daily production planning and monitor food temperatures to meet safety requirements.
In the absence of the Chef Manager or Director, the Cook takes on additional responsibilities such as inspecting delivered food products and supplies, supervising storage, and reporting equipment issues or unsafe conditions. Compliance with health and sanitation regulations is strictly enforced and regularly audited to maintain the highest quality standards. Forefront expects its Cooks to adhere to all facility and departmental policies including those related to human resources, ethics, health and safety, patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance. Participation in department meetings, ongoing professional development, and required certifications or licenses is also part of the role. Job Requirements
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- high school graduate or equivalent education preferred
- education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets preferred
- minimum one year food service experience in healthcare dietary setting desired
- minimum two years working in food and beverage operations preferred
- general knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving
- ability to read, understand, and follow recipe directions, diet orders, and work assignments
- able and willing to work flexible hours including emergencies
- patience and tolerance toward staff, patients, and family
- ServSafe preferred
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Prepare food according to federal, state, and local standards
- assist in meal preparation for residents, families, and employees
- deliver and take meal orders as needed
- follow standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation standards
- complete daily production worksheets and waste logs
- taste meals to ensure quality
- monitor hot and cold food temperatures during preparation and service
- inspect food products and supplies in absence of Chef Manager or Director
- supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products
- notify Chef Manager or Director of supply or equipment needs
- report equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions
- comply with health and sanitation regulations
- perform other duties assigned by Chef Manager or Director
- adhere to facility and departmental policies including HR, ethics, health and safety, patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA
- attend department meetings
- complete mandatory training and certifications
