Summit operates as a division within Elior North America, a leading contract food service company committed to diversity, inclusion, and career advancement opportunities for its employees. Elior North America supports an environment full of growth and development for its workforce, whether in corporate roles or within their various brand segments. The company is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fostering a diverse and supportive work environment for all employees, regardless of race, religion, gender, or other protected status.
The Cook position at Summit's Reidsville, North Carolina location offers an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals seeking a fast-paced and dynamic work setting. This full-time, onsite role focuses on preparing high-quality meals in a correctional facility kitchen, where precision, efficiency, and adherence to food safety standards are paramount. The role requires a motivated and passionate individual who thrives in a team environment and is committed to delivering delicious, nutritious, and safe meals.
As a cook for Summit, you will engage in all aspects of meal preparation. Your responsibilities will encompass quality control and portion management to maintain consistency and meet nutritional standards. You will handle food preparation with skill, applying culinary techniques to produce well-crafted dishes. Your role also involves creative food presentation to enhance meal appeal despite the challenging environment. Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization will be critical to ensure a safe and orderly workspace. Additionally, you will be responsible for proper food storage practices, safeguarding food quality and hygiene. A vital component of the job is following established safe food handling policies, procedures, and standardized recipes to comply with health regulations and sustain the facility's food service standards.
Summit values employees who demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently in a high-volume kitchen. Prior culinary experience, particularly in quality-focused and high-volume environments that emphasize scratch cooking, will be essential for success in this role. Familiarity with various kitchen equipment and tools, as well as the ability to distinguish food items accurately, are important skills for our cooks. Customer service experience is also required to help maintain positive interactions and service quality within the facility.
While not mandatory, holding a food handlers' certification is a plus, supporting your knowledge and practice of food safety principles. Compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 to $17.00 per hour, reflecting the importance and specialized nature of the work.
Joining Summit means becoming part of a mission-driven team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in correctional food services. You will contribute to an efficient operation that prioritizes inmate health and wellbeing through carefully prepared meals. The company also offers comprehensive benefits designed to support full-time employees' health, financial security, and personal development. Overall, this position is ideal for cooks seeking a challenging, purposeful role within a caring and professional organization committed to employee growth and excellence in culinary service.
