Minnetonka High School Nutrition Services is a vital department dedicated to providing nutritious and balanced meals to students within the school community. Located in Minnetonka, Minnesota, the school is known for its commitment to academic excellence and student well-being. The Nutrition Services team plays a crucial role in supporting students' health and learning by ensuring access to quality meals prepared in a safe and efficient environment. This department adheres to USDA, federal, state, and local sanitary regulations, emphasizing food safety and nutrition standards.

We are currently seeking two motivated Cook positions to join the Nutrition Services team at Minnetonka High School starting in the 2026-2027 school year. These full-time roles involve working seven hours per day on all school days, with initial training and kitchen opening preparations scheduled for August 24-26, 2026. The positions offer a competitive wage of $24.24 per hour and provide eligibility for medical and dental benefits, supporting employees' overall wellness.

As a Cook in the Nutrition Services department, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food on-site according to established guidelines to ensure safe and healthy meals for students. Duties include setting up serving lines, maintaining accurate food inventory and daily usage records, assisting with cleanup, and supporting the training of Cook Helpers. You may also be tasked with ordering supplies under the supervision of the Cook Manager and performing cashiering and point-of-sale duties when needed. These positions require flexibility and the ability to serve as a backup to the Cook Manager or Elementary Cook Manager, demonstrating leadership and teamwork within the kitchen environment.

Working within a school setting, you will contribute directly to the well-being and success of students by helping maintain high standards in food preparation and service. This role requires adherence to food safety protocols and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds. Successful candidates will be proficient in computer skills to navigate online ordering systems and possess strong communication skills to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the school community.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in school food service or related field
  • Ability or willingness to obtain MN Department of Health Certified Food Protection Manager Certificate within 90 days of hire
  • Membership in School Nutrition Association and willingness to complete required levels of training
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • MN Department of Health Certified Food Protection Manager Certificate or ability or obtain within 90 days of hiring date
  • Membership in School Nutrition Association (SNA) and Level 2 completion within 90 days from date of hire and Level IV within 365 days from date of hire
  • Evidence of successful experience in school food service or related field for a minimum of one year
  • Computer skills and the ability to learn online ordering systems required
  • Math skills required for ordering inventory and working with recipes
  • Evidence of leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds) as assessed through a preplacement physical at Concentra

Job Duties

  • Cooks and heats foods on site utilizing USDA, federal, state and local sanitary regulations
  • Records food inventory and daily food usage
  • Sets up serving line and serves food
  • Assists with clean-up activities
  • Assists with training of Cook Helpers
  • Performs ordering responsibilities when assigned by the Cook Manager
  • Performs point-of-sale and cashiering duties as needed
  • Serves as primary back-up to the Cook Manager or Elementary Cook Manager
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
