Job Description

PMS is a well-established non-profit organization founded in 1969, committed to providing comprehensive services across New Mexico through more than 100 locations and a dedicated workforce of over 1,300 employees. Their focus lies primarily on supporting underserved areas by offering a wide spectrum of services, including primary care, dental, behavioral health, early childhood education, supportive living, and senior programs. PMS operates the largest network of federally qualified health centers in the state, enhancing accessibility and quality of care for diverse communities. It is important to note that PMS operates independently and is not affiliated with Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Presbyterian Hospitals, or Presbyterian Health Plan.

This particular role is within the childhood education and food service sectors, specifically focused on kitchen operations and meal preparation. The position involves managing all phases of meal preparation and kitchen operations while adhering to strict nutritional standards such as the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, Head Start/Early Head Start Nutrition Performance Standards, and New Mexico Child Care licensing regulations. The role may require working across various centers depending on program needs, and the candidate may be asked to deliver meals to multiple Head Start Centers, showcasing the importance of flexibility and a commitment to supporting early childhood nutrition on a regional scale.

The position offers a $1,000 sign-on bonus as an incentive and subjects employees to a $500 referral bonus program. The primary focus is to ensure high standards of food quality and safety, compliance with regulatory requirements, and smooth kitchen operations that contribute directly to the nutritional wellbeing of children in care. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess prior experience in a kitchen environment, including food preparation and routine kitchen tasks. Bilingual abilities in English-Spanish or English-Navajo are considered a valuable asset, catering to the diverse linguistic makeup of New Mexico's population.

Certifications like First Aid and BLS/CPR must be obtained within 30 days of hire, with ongoing requirements for maintaining current credentials. The job also requires passing initial health screenings, including annual health exams and TB tests as per PMS policy, alongside mandatory criminal background checks that align with federal and state regulatory standards. As a mission-driven organization, PMS offers competitive salaries, nine paid holidays, generous paid time off, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance. They also provide additional benefits such as free life and long-term disability insurance coverage, discretionary pension plan contributions, employee recognition initiatives, robust training programs, and tuition reimbursement opportunities.

For those passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of children through quality nutrition and early childhood support, this kitchen position at PMS offers a rewarding career path within a supportive and dynamic environment, emphasizing professional growth, community impact, and employee wellbeing.
