The Cook CD - Standard position is a key role within HMSHost’s dynamic kitchen teams. This role focuses on preparing cooked foods with attention to quality, safety, and efficiency. The cook must be proficient in all station functions, including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and cooking eggs, ensuring that each dish is prepared according to established recipes and standards. Communication is essential for this position, as the cook must relay ticket times, potential issues, and other updates to the manager on duty and servers to maintain smooth kitchen operations and excellent customer service.
This is a non-exempt position, typically reporting to a Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or General Manager depending on the location. The hourly wage for this role is $20.00, reflecting the company’s commitment to competitive compensation. The cook must also adhere to stringent food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP compliance, to ensure a safe dining experience for customers. Responsibilities also include measuring and mixing ingredients, cleaning and maintaining workstations and equipment, as well as managing stock, checking temperatures, and rotating products to maximize freshness and minimize waste.
Ideal candidates possess at least one year of related cooking experience, knowledge of soup, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry food preparation, and the physical capability to perform demanding kitchen tasks such as lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in hot environments. Job Requirements
- Requires food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
- Minimum one year of related cooking experience
- Experience in high-volume or fast casual dining environment preferred
- Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions and policy documents
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
- Ability to bend, twist, and stand for job functions
- Frequent exposure to water, hot environments, and sharp kitchen utensils
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year cooking experience in a related field
- Knowledge of HACCP standards and food safety practices

Job Duties
- Prepare cooked foods following recipes and product directions
- Perform all station functions of Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and cooking eggs
- Communicate ticket times and potential problems to the manager and servers
- Follow menus, season, cook, taste, carve and serve food items including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment
- Practice excellent food safety and sanitation practices
- Operate kitchen equipment and manage ingredient measurements
- Stock, date, rotate, and check the temperature of products
- Perform other duties as assigned
