The Cook CD - Standard position at HMSHost is a critical role within their culinary teams, responsible for the preparation and cooking of a wide variety of food items across different kitchen stations, including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and eggs. This non-exempt role reports directly to the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or General Manager depending on the location. The Cook CD plays a vital part in delivering high-quality food service to customers by following standardized recipes, maintaining excellent food safety and hygiene practices consistent with HACCP standards, and operating kitchen equipment efficiently. They are expected to communicate effectively with management and service staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely food preparation.

In this role, the Cook CD is entrusted with tasks such as seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving various food products including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts. They are responsible for planning production needs by estimating food quantities, checking production quality, and keeping accurate records for supply requisition. Cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment are emphasized, as well as strict adherence to health and safety procedures, including frequent handling of cleaning chemicals and working with sharp utensils in hot environments.

The position requires candidates with at least one year of relevant cooking experience, preferably within high-volume or fast casual dining restaurant settings. The ideal candidate demonstrates proficiency in food preparation techniques related to soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry stations. Physical demands include the ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds, frequent standing, bending, twisting, and immersion of hands in water and cleaning solutions. Good communication skills and the ability to comprehend instructions and policies are essential for success in this role.

Job Duties

  • Follows recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food items which may include soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other food and beverage products
  • Tastes products, follows menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment as needed
  • Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment
  • Practices excellent food safety and sanitation practices and complies with HACCP standards
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Measures and mixes ingredients
  • washes, peels, cuts and shreds fruits and vegetables
  • Stocks, dates, rotates, and checks temperature of product
  • Other duties as assigned
