The Cook CD - Skilled role at HMSHost is a crucial position responsible for the preparation of cooked foods with a high standard of quality and safety. This non-exempt position requires seasoned culinary skills in areas such as frying, flat top griddle cooking, pantry preparation, and egg cooking. The cook must adhere to recipes and food safety standards including HACCP guidelines to ensure the highest quality of food service. This role demands effective communication with management and other team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations and timely service delivery.

In this role, the cook will be tasked with following detailed recipes for a variety of food items including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts. They must also accurately estimate food requirements, maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment, and operate kitchen tools proficiently. The ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety protocols and quality is essential.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years cooking experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Knowledge of HACCP food safety standards
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, and twist for extended periods
  • Ability to work in hot and fast-paced environments
  • Willingness to follow company policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of related cooking experience in high volume or fast casual dining
  • Knowledge of sauces, soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry food preparation
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in food safety and sanitation
  • Preferred supervisor or lead experience

Job Duties

  • Prepare cooked foods following recipes and product directions
  • Communicate ticket times and issues to management and servers
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of workstations and kitchen equipment
  • Measure, mix ingredients and operate various kitchen equipment
  • Stock, date and check temperature of food products
  • Follow food safety and HACCP standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
