The role of the Cook at Liberty Senior Living is paramount in ensuring that all food served meets the highest standards of nutrition, flavor, appearance, and safety. This position requires an individual who is not only skilled in food preparation and production but also attentive to the special dietary requirements and preferences of the residents. The Cook will follow recipes carefully, help modify existing recipes, and adhere to production schedules, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation within the kitchen. A strong emphasis is placed on food safety, with responsibilities including proper handling, storage, and sanitation practices to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. The role also involves active communication with the Executive Chef regarding inventory, production issues, and menu changes to optimize food quality and reduce waste. Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- Two or more years of restaurant experience
- Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment
- Attendance at trainings and department meetings when necessary
- Ability to perform duties as outlined by supervisor

Job Duties
- Follow recipes and assist with recipe modification and development
- Follow production schedules based on forecasts and tallies
- Record and report over-production, underproduction, and waste
- Prepare foods using methods designed to maintain nutrition, flavor, appearance, tenderness, and quality
- Offer and prepare appropriate substitute food items when a dislike occurs
- Implement, and record, menu changes as directed by the Executive Chef
- Prepare foods to meet the special needs of individual residents such as special requests and allergy alternates
- Document and communicate special items preparation
- Advise Executive Chef of inventory needs, usage and shortages
- Utilize safe food preparation methods when receiving, preparing, storing, cooling, freezing, holding, transporting, serving, and reheating foods
- Monitor temperature records and checklists for holding and storing equipment to maintain safe food at all stages in the flow of food
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen at all times
- Ensure and assist with cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas according to established checklist
- Report and take immediate and appropriate corrective action if standards are not met
- Create a positive dining experience for customers that promotes their independence, choice and overall well-being
- Encourage participation in the dining program and meal activities
- Solicit feedback by interacting with customers in the market cafe
- Convey feedback and make recommendations regarding food quality and customer satisfaction to supervisor
- Monitor meal portion controls to meet customer requests and regulations and make recommendations to minimize waste
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, maintaining, monitoring and tracking food and supplies
- Demonstrate good stewardship of available resources such as supplies, utilities, time
- Actively participate and implement quality performance in all aspects of job responsibilities and functions
- Participate in and promote teamwork and cooperation within the department and between other departments
- Seek, recommend, and/or implement new methods and means of providing quality service and continuous improvement
- Work to support the departmental mission and the “Liberty Cares” mission
- Apply the knowledge and skills needed for the position, including technical competence in the nutrition and culinary services field
- Maintain knowledge of organization and industry policies and practices
- Look for and report any items in need of repair to the Executive Chef
- Perform all daily tasks in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures
- In the event of a fire or other emergency, assist with resident evacuations and secure food service area
- Assist with special event preparation, set up and tear down
- Attend in-service training and other work-related meetings as required or approved
- Carry out special projects as identified
- Help with any other areas of the building as needed
